Get Your New Car's Windows Tinted in Hornsby

You open the door and the steering wheel's too hot to touch, the seats burn, and it takes five minutes of AC on full before the cabin's bearable. How ceramic window film works

There are a few types of window film on the market. Dyed film is the cheapest, and it's what budget tinters use. It blocks some light but it doesn't reject much heat, and after a couple of Australian summers it turns purple, bubbles, and starts peeling from the top edge. We don't use it.

Ceramic film is different. It uses nano-ceramic particles embedded in the film to block infrared heat without needing to be dark. That's why you can get a lighter tint that still rejects 80% of solar heat. It also blocks 99% of UV, which is what causes your dash, leather, and trim to crack and fade over time.

How the install works

Drop the car off in the morning and pick it up after lunch. A full tint job on a sedan or SUV typically takes 3–4 hours. We start by cleaning the glass thoroughly, inside and out. Any dust or contamination trapped under the film will show as a bubble or speck, so this step matters more than most people realise.

We then cut the film to fit each window using a plotter, not freehand. The film gets heat-shrunk to match the curve of the glass before it's applied, so there are no creases or fingers at the edges. Once it's on, it needs a few days to fully cure. You might see some light haze or small water pockets during that period, but they disappear as the film dries out.
